"Review of the NYS Controller Audit Reports concerning School District IT" by Mike Lanckton, Union Free School District (March 2009)

Links in the Chain - a powerpoint produced in January, 2008 summarizing the findings of "The IT Study Group" which was comprised of about 40 teachers, technologist and business leaders in our community who were invited by Dr Pastel to meet during the Fall of 2007. During that time the IT Study Group reviewed the history, the challenges & the successes of technology development in Ithaca schools. Ithaca stakeholders confirmed their vision that the greatest impact on student learning is achieved when trained teachers can confidently use technology to teach curriculum. Today technology fluency varies widely between students, teachers and staff, and meeting the challenge of educating everyone is critical if we are to achieve the full benefits of technology. Stakeholders recognize that like modern instruction, modern school operations are also now almost completely dependent upon technology. Ithaca district stakeholders have made a handful of recommendations to the Board and to the community at large on where the district should focus resources to maximize student benefits. This presentation is a review of those recommendations as well as a review of the projected cost-impact of fulfilling those recommendations.
